Am I weird? Sometimes a tv show theme song can actually make me cry. It happens with movies all the time. When I went to see first of the new Star Wars trilogy, The Phantom Menace, I cried while the opening played. Of course, by the end of the movie I was pretty pissed at George Lucas, but that's another story.

I guess I'm overly sentimental about my childhood, but I'm not sure why. I certainly didn't have that Brady Bunch upbringing. Maybe I'm sentimental about what I wish my childhood was or maybe lines like, "you're gonna make it after all" are just so hopeful they can't help but bring me to tears.

I was too young to watch a lot of these when they were new, like Mary Tyler Moore and The Brady Bunch, but I watched a LOT of tv as a kid and the late 70s and early 80s were rerun heaven.

Some theme songs are unbelievably awful. I'm talking about (click at our own risk) The Love Boat, Eight is Enough, Alice, The Greatest American Hero , Three's Company, WKRP in Cincinnati, Family Ties to name a few.

The Waltons theme song was okay, but it really has little effect on me since I was a Little House on the Prairie girl and never watched The Waltons. Maybe because I watched about every episode of The Jeffersons, Taxi, Good Times (who's theme is awesome, by the way) and Sanford and Son they just don't have much of an emotional effect on me now. Wonder Woman, The Muppet Show and the first season of Happy Days are some of my favorite openings, but these below are the tearjerkers.

Summer is almost here and it feels so good to open the windows and let the fresh air in! This summer my plan is to bring more flowers into my space, preferably purple, but as you will see below, maybe some red, too. I'm also looking forward to lazy days and summer drinks.

This summer I want to use some Old Fashioned Striped Straws which are perfect for those summer drinks.
I usually steer clear of Red flowers for my own home and garden, but not anymore after seeing these photos by Little Brown Pen.
What's more perfect than a simple, classic outfit like this or this (natalie portman channeling audrey hepburn) and how sweet is this look?
I still have my eye on this Charlie Chaplin tshirt on Etsy.
These Dottie Angel tea towels are as light and happy as a summer breeze.
Tomatoes are my favorite fruit and I love buying them fresh and organic from the farmers market. This summer I am going to make a soy-free vegan Caprese Salad which uses a cashew cheese instead of mozzarella or tofu.

Who knew there was so much you could do with a doily? I have a stack of vintage doilies and am going to try to turn a few into bowls and what could be easier than framing them? When done with a black background, they arent as granny and make a bold statement.

Mason Jar Lights

I have a small collection of Mason jars, clear and turquoise, and use them for vases and button holders. This summer I am going to be turning some of them into outdoor lights.
The easy way to do it is to just fill it with some sand or pebbles (or not) and put a tea light candle in it, but you can also use solar lights , a battery powered LED light or stuff little party/christmas lights in them. To hang, attach wire by either wrapping it around the mouth or drilling holes on either end of the mouth.

Pink Door

I want a pink door.
My front door was white, and I painted it black last year. Works perfectly fine with my suburban 2 story colonial. Next house, I am going pink. Can you imagine coming home through a pink door every day?! Would you be happier? I'm thinking you would.
I would do it now, but we hope to sell this house in a year and while I'm sure the pink door would delight a few prospective buyers, I'm pretty sure it wont appeal to the masses. So, I'll have to wait patiently.

In Her Own Image, the second collection of self-portraiture from the Female Self-Portrait Artists' Support Group is now expected to be available to the public in late June and features the work of 87 female self-portrait artists in a beautiful 316 page edition.

I cant tell you how unbelievably proud I am of this book. 2 years ago I came up with the (brilliant...cough cough) idea of the Female Self Portrait Artists' Support Group making a book and here we are at book #2! I took on the head manager position and the brilliant Bronwen Hyde took over the design aspect and also took care of most of the ugly bits that really made the book come together so beautifully.

The front cover features a wonderfully surreal image by Erika Pham, and has been designed by Elle Moss (me!)and Heather Evans Smith.

The book will be sold with a small mark-up through Blurb, with all proceeds going to MADRE.

Summer Link Love

The last month of summer is here...so depressing. Im trying to enjoy every minute of it before cold sets upon us. I'm trying to find new parks in my area that for some reason or another I've never visited or haven't visited in a long time. I've been visiting farmers markets for my produce and eating too much watermelon. I wish so much that I had a pool in my backyard to hang out by, but maybe I shoud just do it like Heather Evans Smith in the photo below (which is so fun and amazing, right?!) and take a dip with my toddler in her baby pool.

South Haven

Just returned from a week in South Haven, Michigan. It's my favorite Lake Michigan town with such a quaint downtown - lots of shops and restaurants, biweekly farmers market and horse drawn carriage rides. It has 2 beaches right on Lake Michigan and lots of adorable houses. We also spent a day in New Buffalo, a day in St. Joseph and another day in Saugatuck/Douglas. In all, I think I took about 1100 photos! Its going to take weeks to go through them all, but here are a few from a little shoot I did on a small section of private beach that we snuck onto.

I'm in love with this $3.00 vase I bought at an antique store a block away from the house we rented.

Setting the scene with some help from my little one. It was really really windy, but fairly warm and she had a lot of fun playing in the waves that crashed around us.

I'm going to be away for a week visiting beautiful South Haven on Lake Michigan. I have been all over Michigan, but Lake Michigan is the prettiest, I think. I love reading, especially novels. After the birth of my daughter Olivia 3 years ago, I put down novels and picked up magazines...short, sweet and lots of pictures! Except for the Twilight series (do they count as novels?), I havent read anything but Domino and Lucky!

Determined to read something this summer, I rummaged through my bookshelves where I have lots of novels I've picked up at my local library sales and garage sales and tried to find something. I decided upon The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold since I had read in Entertainment Weekly that it was being made into a movie. So far, it is dark and as the mother of a 3 year old girl, a bit scary. Im thinking I might switch to something uplifting. After seeing Brooke Shields speech for Michael Jackson, I want to read The Little Prince again...so pretty.

I'm also considering The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

I would love to hear your suggestions for summer books!

Found out last night that I had won a print by futurowoman from Our City Lights!

Futurowoman is one of my favorite flickr/etsy photographers, so I was absolutely thrilled to finally own something of hers! I chose this print: Amsterdam Polaroid. Isn't it divine? Can't wait to frame it.

Futurowoman has been very busy! She has a solo show coming up at the Union Gallery, 3rd floor of the Union, at the University of North Texas in Denton: "Instant Gratification: A Celebration of Polaroid"
