i heart books and Friday Flickr Faves!

I love reading, especially novels.  After the birth of my daughter Olivia 3 years ago, I put down novels and picked up magazines...short, sweet and lots of pictures!  Except for  the Twilight series (do they count as  novels?), I havent read anything but Domino and Lucky!
Determined to read something this summer, I rummaged through my bookshelves where I have lots of novels I've picked up at my local library sales and garage sales and tried to find something.  I decided upon The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold since I had read in Entertainment Weekly that it was being made into a movie.  So far, it is dark and as the mother of a 3 year old girl, a bit scary.  Im thinking I might switch to something uplifting.  After seeing Brooke Shields speech for Michael Jackson, I want to read The Little Prince again...so pretty.
I'm also considering The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls.

I would love to hear your suggestions for summer books!

Below are my Friday Flickr Faves.  If you are familiar with flickr, then you have certainly seen the heart/book/bokeh images which have become cliche, but what's not to love?

Every Summer I re-read the Chronicles of Narnia. I have all of the stories together in one large book. Not exactly adult literature, but I like them. :)

Yes, like Meg said, if you want something light, Chronicles of Narnia are just perfect, I love wen I read them. One of the best books of my last summers was " Shadow of Wind", from Carlos Ruiz Zafon. If you read it, tell me what you think :)

I just finished The Glass Castle and it was wonderful. My favorite book I've read so far this year has definitely been The Time Traveler's Wife. I also really loved Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and Clown Girl. I've been reading a lot this year after a long hiatus.

What a fantastic collection of Flickr faves! I re-read the Little House series every once in a while... it's deceptively simple, but Laura Ingalls Wilder really dealt with a lot of complex themes, especially about the conflict between Native Americans and white settlers and women's roles in 19th century frontier America. A great series for summer reading, I think.

Oh, how I miss Domino! ...sigh...
I haven't been able to sit and read much lately either, but I love the short stories of Alice Munroe.

I read the Kite Runner a while ago- it was really really good. But totally devastating at the same time.

thank you for the suggestions!

Morgan, I have 'the time travelers wife'...maybe i will replace 'the lovely bones' with that one.

Sara, oh how i miss Domino too!

Read Narnia series and lots of Roald Dahl, but want something a bit more 'grown up'! Though i love childrens books very much :)

I would recommend The Sweetness of the Bottom of the Pie. It's such a charming book. I also loved the Glass Castle. It's funny and a bit heartbreaking but leaves you feeling so good in the end.

thanks, Diana. I will check it out!

Gorgeous collection. I have been neglecting my books this summer. We have such long winters that I read all winter and now I am just enjoying the sun.

Thanks for including me.
